Introducing Salience United: pooled purchasing for Ontario SMBs
Salience United is a group purchasing organization for Ontario's small and mid-sized businesses. We pool our members' purchasing so they can buy at the volume prices large enterprises already get.
The price gap nobody talks about
Two businesses can buy the same box of gloves, the same set of tires or the same sheet of drywall and pay very different prices. The difference is not quality. It is volume.
Large enterprises buy in enormous quantities, sign multi-year contracts and employ teams whose only job is to push unit prices down. Suppliers reward that volume with tiered pricing. A small business ordering a few cases at a time pays the counter price.
That gap is the competitive spread, and it comes straight out of the small business's margin. It means less to reinvest, less room to compete on price and less to pay good people.
Why it matters beyond one business
When small and mid-sized businesses can't match big-company costs, they lose ground on price even when they win on service. Over time, markets concentrate into fewer, larger players.
Fewer competitors means less pressure to improve products and keep prices fair. The people who feel that most are everyday customers.
Salience United exists to close that spread. Our long-term goal is a more competitive market, where independent businesses compete on equal footing and customers get higher-quality products at fairer prices.
What we do
Group purchasing is where we start. We combine the demand of many independent businesses into one large order book, then negotiate with distributors and manufacturers on our members' behalf.
On its own, a single contractor, restaurant or fleet has little leverage. Together, our members buy in the volumes that unlock the price tiers large enterprises use. You get the same products from established suppliers and pay less for what you already buy.
What members get
- Volume pricing on everyday supplies: building and renovation, food service, auto parts and shop supplies, dental and medical consumables, janitorial and sanitation, office and print, and fuel, fleet and equipment.
- No membership fee, no subscription and no upfront cost. Salience United is paid from a share of the savings we negotiate. If you don't save, we don't earn.
- No change to how you order. You keep ordering the way you do today, through contracted suppliers.
- A monthly savings report showing what you bought, what you paid and what you would have paid on your own.
- A say in what we negotiate next. The more members buy in a category, the more leverage we have, so member demand sets our priorities.
Where we're starting
We are starting in the Greater Toronto Area and building out across Ontario, one category and one community of businesses at a time. Every new member adds volume that earns better pricing for everyone else in the network.
